In order to get potential breakage, you can add in a couple of extras.
Mark your area
In order to mark out the perimeter of your area that you are edging, you have to use garden hose, lime or string. You have to avoid creating sharp corners because it will make for difficult mowing around those sharp corners since once the stone has been set.
Create a trench
You can start digging a trench on the far side of the marking method that you have chosen from the step 2 by using a trench digging tool or a square edge shovel. You just have to prepare your trench to be 3 inches up to 4 inches deep and the width of the stone which has been chosen. The purpose is to keep the trench as uniform as possible.
Install a weed inhibitor
This step is optional but if you want to prevent the frustration of weeding, now it is the time for you to install the plastic barrier to your trench. You have to cut strips from the roll to conform to the size of the trench. After the plastic is laid down through the whole trench, you can pour in ½ inch of sand inside the entire length of the trench.
Set the first stone
It is the time for you to place the first stone in order to decide the height. Put your stone in the trench and it can be stabilized by packing in a couple of dirt displaced when making the trench. After you get the height that you satisfied, you have to put a stack near the stone and tie the string into it.
Laying all the stone
Place the rest of the stone into the trench and then pack each one until they have all been placed. After all the stone is placed in position, it is the time to press the rest of the soil around each stone. The final step is to water the edging in order to complete the process of the packing.
